My statement: 

"Mr Lee Kwan Yew planted a tree on 16 June 1963 and many more in his life-time. I was not aware of this before his death. Without him, we will not have about 2 million trees and I am so grateful for his vision and commitment in making his vision a reality. "Never mind the colours, just green up the city first. When the first plane lands, I want people to look at planted vegetation not ranked vegetation" were Mr Lee's spoken words. My love for the trees in Singapore led me to create" Conversations with trees" since 2011 and in this series my idea is to combine the silkscreens of Mr Lee Kwan Yew planting trees and the marks of Singapore trees on the same canvases. This series pays tribute to Mr Lee Kwan Yew- the chief Gardener of Singapore's Garden City. "

In celebration of Singapore’s jubilee year, Penfolds is proud to present the limited edition Bin 28 gift box, a result of a stunning collaboration with Singapore artist, Yeo Shih Yun. Enclosed with each specially designed box is a reprint of one of four commemorative artworks created by Shih Yun as part of the ‘Singapore Heritage Trees’ series.  Inspired by four of Singapore’s oldest trees, Shih Yun’s creations are also representational of the Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28, the oldest Bin wine in the Penfolds portfolio.

 In the creation of this commemorative series, Shih Yun ties together and hangs the leaves and branches of four trees that have been  identified as ‘Heritage Trees’ and allows the chance movement of the wind to bring the paintings into existence. Each brush stroke made by the tree and wind is spontaneous, without the constraints of a limited visual vocabulary, creating drawings of absolute freedom and honesty. She incorporates a deep red into the black and white paintings, representative of the Penfolds brand and Singapore’s national colour.

 The complete series comprises of ‘Angsana’, ‘Raintree’, ‘Saga’ and ‘Tembusu’ – each named after the tree of inspiration. There are four versions to collect, available at all Cold Storage and NTUC stores with a recommended retail price of S$50.

 Singapore artist Ms Yeo Shih Yun said, “I am honoured to be working with Penfolds, a brand that values true craftsmanship. The Penfolds Bin 28 collaboration was interesting to work on as I experimented with various ways to present the perfect encapsulation of Penfolds and Singapore in a unique and visually appealing manner. By combining wine with art, we are demonstrating that the Penfolds Bin 28 is more than just a bottle of wine, it is a reflection of creativity and true passion.”

 The Penfolds Bin 28 offers a showcase of warm-climate Australian Shiraz – ripe, robust and generously flavoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna Vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented.
